Mrs. Kennedy and Me- Book Review

Mrs. Kennedy and Me: An Intimate MemoirMrs. Kennedy and Me: An Intimate Memoir by Clint Hill

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve always been fascinated by the Secret Service. They are, in some was, the ultimate fly on the wall, experience history from an awesome viewpoint. However, I had never read anything about the Secret Service until this book. I think this book was engaging and approachable. It was not filled with lists of protocol and procedure, but rather a great telling of what it was like to build a relationship with one of the most iconic women of all time.

A quick read, this book captured a moment in time and brought two figures who have become extremely iconic back to the reality of their character, while clearly illustrating why they became the legends we know now. This is not a book full of sordid details, and is completely above the board when it comes to the information Mr. Hill shares about the lives of the Kennedys.

Overall, I highly recommend this book. It was a quick and enjoyable read that took you back to another time and place, while illustrating the fine line a Secret Service agent walks between protector, friend, and employee.

Blurb Photobook

While I was out at BlogHer12 I got my hands on a code for a Blurb Book.  I’ve never had the opportunity to make a hardcover photo book before, but boy does the quality shine through. The book that we bought (a wrapped hardcover) came in over the weekend and was absolutely gorgeous.   Here’s a sneak peak.

Blurb Books create high quality custom photo books

According to Blurb’s website:

Blurb is a company and a community that believes passionately in the joy of books – reading them, making them, sharing them, and selling them…So we put our minds together, and developed a creative publishing service simple and smart enough to make anyone an author – every blogger, cook, photographer, parent, traveler, poet, pet owner, marketer, everyone. (This means you.)

What is wonderful about their service is that you can use several options to create your book, including a very structured model through the site, a little more detailed option requires you to download a program, and finally for professionals, they have a version that has a plug-in for Adobe In Design and also gives you access to typographic and layout changes, as well as publishing for iPad. I used the middle level (Blurb Booksmart) on my computer and felt I had enough control to create my book, yet still enough structure to not get lost in the weeds.

So far everyone we’ve shown the book to has been extremely impressed.  The book will be displayed at our wedding on the Guestbook table.  Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to using Blurb again when we get ready to immortalize our wedding pictures.

Victims?

Mitt- it’s no secret that you and I may not see eye to eye, especially as you have been getting dragged closer and closer to the fringes of the right. But Mitt, I’m really, personally insulted by your opinion of “47%” of American’s that you think see themselves as “victims” that won’t take “personal responsibility for themselves.”
I’d like to introduce you to one of those so called “victims”. The ones you think are self made “victims” because of a lack of “personal responsibility”. Her name is Mom. My mom. She actually is a victim, but also one of the strongest, most hardworking women I have ever met. Let me tell you a little bit about her. Continue reading

Birth Control- Not just for preventing pregnancy

EDITED TO ADD BOLDED INFORMATION Lately, I’ve been very frustrated with the media pushing aside the voices that are arguing for Women’s Rights in this election, saying it’s not an important issue.  Claiming that it is just a social issue … Continue reading
